Whole Teaching Staff Development:

All academies within AbbeyMAT are committed to giving all of our students outstanding teaching and learning experiences and we believe this is achieved through an effective professional development package.

As an academy trust we define effective professional development as structured professional learning that results in changes in teacher practices and improvements in student learning outcomes.

To achieve this we utilise our Lead Practitioners and other outstanding practitioners from across the Trust to ensure all academies and staff receive world class training to develop their pedagogy.

Newly Qualified Teacher Support Programme:

Newly qualified staff within all academies within Abbey MAT will complete a tailored programme of professional development to allow them to adapt to the demands of the teaching profession so they can thrive and embrace the rewards teaching brings.

• Behaviour Management
• Marking and Feedback
• Lesson planning
• Data and Assessment
• Specific Teaching and Learning Strategies
• Wellbeing (work / life support)

Recently Qualified Teacher Support Programme:

Staff in the second and third year of their career will be supported to ensure they continue to develop their practice and continue on the journey towards becoming an outstanding practitioner. All RQT staff will be attached to a coach who will be an experienced member of staff with a proven track record of being an effective member of staff.

Middle Leadership Development Programme:

Middle leaders within AbbeyMAT play an important role in helping students and staff to fulfil their potential. Throughout the year the middle leaders programme will help staff to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours they need to be a high-performing middle leader in schools. Staff will cover topics such as:

• Moral leadership - Vision, values and the moral purpose - Developing your leadership approach
• Managing behaviour for learning
• Evidence based teaching and learning
• Support and challenge – holding yourself and others to account - observations and challenging conversations
• Leading strategic improvement - moderation, monitoring/quality assurance and action planning
• Data analysis for performance and progress - diminishing the difference
• Managing resources and risks - building a high-performance team and developing yourself and others
